RAIPUR: Seven personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force or CRPF were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in was blown away by a landmine blast triggered by the Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada.
“The rebels triggered a powerful blast near Melwada, about 12 kilometres from Dantewada, targeting the CRPF personnel of paramilitary’s 230 battalion, killing seven of them on the spot,” police confirmed.
The explosion targeting the pick up van was so powerful that the vehicle was thrown up in the air and its parts were flung in different directions.
The Maoists carried out the explosion in the wake of increased anti-Naxalite operations in the tribal areas of the state. Many other soldiers were injured in the blast.
